What do we mean by diversity?
In this study, when we say ‘diverse backgrounds’ we mean children and young people with diabetes who are from minority ethnic backgrounds or economically deprived backgrounds.
We want to hear about the lives and experiences of children and young person with diabetes and their parents and families who are living in England, and who are African heritage, or African Caribbean heritage, or who are Black or Black British, or ‘Mixed race’, or South Asian heritage, or People of Colour with any other ‘not White European’ background.
We also want to hear about the lives and experiences of children and young people with diabetes who are growing up in places in England that are economically deprived. If you are White British, or from any other background, and your postcode is in a more deprived area then this study is also for you.
The reason we want to find out more about how diabetes care fits into the lives of diverse children and young people with diabetes and their families, is that so far, treatments have worked less well, and treatment outcomes have been poorer, for families from these diverse backgrounds. We want to understand better why this is, and then we want to work with families to improve treatments. We want to develop healthcare that works for children and young people with diabetes from diverse backgrounds.
